Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 28, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On Jan. 26 at 6 a.m., officers responded to Blair Road in Indian Head for the report of multiple vandalisms. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect slashed the tires on five vehicles, damaging a total of eight tires. Officer S. Davis is investigating.

BURGLARY: On Jan. 25 at 9:02 a.m., officers responded to 11110 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect removed the security curtain from the Gold and Silver Connection kiosk, pried open two display cases, and stole watches and jewelry. Officer C. McCue is investigating.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY/PURSUIT: On Jan. 24 at 7:20 a.m., the suspect entered the DNR Police Station on Old Washington Road in Waldorf and reported he thought he had a bomb in his truck. The DNR personnel advised him to turn off his truck at which time the suspect drove away. A lookout was broadcast for the vehicle which was spotted a short time later in La Plata. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Catalpa Drive but the driver refused to stop, driving at a high rate of speed toward the Harry Nice Memorial Bridge. Officers deployed "Stop Sticks" near Chapel Point Road but the suspect avoided them. Stop Sticks were again deployed in the area of Faulkner Road where the suspect was unable to avoid them. The suspect continued south but was eventually stopped prior to the bridge. The driver, 59, of Upper Marlboro, was subsequently apprehended. Charges are pending the outcome of a medical evaluation. No explosives were recovered and no one was injured. Officer D. Brady is investigating.
