MSP Reports for Charles County


LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 20, 2009) - The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On January 9, 2009, at approximately 2252 hours, Trooper W. Posey was on routine patrol traveling southbound on U.S. Route 301, north of Smallwood Drive when he stopped a white Toyota Camry with expired registration tags. Upon contact with the driver, Leticia Elizabeth King, 26, of Upper Marlboro, he detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana. King was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On January 10, 2009, at approximately 2:24 hours, Trooper B. Sorenson was on routine patrol traveling northbound on U.S. Route 301, south of Sub Station Road when he stooped a black Chevy Monte Carlo with illegal window tinting and wearing seat belt incorrectly. Upon contact with the driver and his passenger Trooper Sorensen smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana. A probable cause search revealed suspected marijuana was found on David Wayne Ashford, 22, of Lanham. Ashford was charged with possession of marijuana.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On January 16, 2009. at approximately 0:58 hours, Trooper W. Posey was on routine patrol in Waldorf when he observed a gold Mercury Grand Marquis sitting at a traffic signal on eastbound Acton Lane, west of U.S. Route 301 with no lights on. Trooper Posey initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon contact with the driver, Robert Sinclair Sewell, 19, of Brandywine, Trooper Posey smelled a faint odor or marijuana. The driver and his passenger (a minor) was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. The passenger was released to his parents.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On January 16, 2009, at approximately 23:40 hours, TFC J. Edelen, was conducting a patrol check of the Super 8 Hotel when he observed a black Mitsubishi running with its lights on and the occupants sleeping. Contact was made with the driver, Richard Lee Thompson Jr., 22, of Waldorf, and his passenger Kiera Ashley Brien, 22, of Waldorf. A K-9 Unit responded to the location. Cpl. R. Cuyler and K-9 Atos from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office conducted a scan which revealed a positive alert. Thompson and Brien were arrested and charged with possession not marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
