Calvert County Sheriff's Reports


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Jan. 20, 2009) - The Calvert County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY: Unknown suspect(s) burglarized a shed from behind a home on 5th Street in Owings sometime between January 11 and 14th. The suspects stole a Troy Bilt 8000W generator valued at $1100, a Poulan gas weed eater and a Sears gas leaf blower, each worth $75. Dep. Roscoe Kreps is investigating the theft.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: Dep. Mark Fitzgerald conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on January 14 at 2:53 p.m. on southbound Md. Rt. 4 near Sollers Wharf Road in Lusby. The driver, later identified as Dawn Marie Kopp, 44 of Lusby, was found to be in possession of suspected controlled dangerous substances. Kopp was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, morphine sulfate pills, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a small change pouch used to contain the pills.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: Cpl. Vladimir Bortchevsky investigated a vehicle parked in front of a no parking sign at the cul-de-sac of Sky View Drive in Lusby on January 15 at 8:34 p.m. The passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Jeffrey Thomas Phelps, 19 of Port Republic, was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, rolling papers and a cigar used to inhale a controlled dangerous substance.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On January 16 at 8:03 p.m. while working security at Northern High School in Owings for a varsity basketball game, Dep. Frank Winston could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from an individual nearby. Dep. Winston stopped the male and subsequently found him to be in possession of suspected cocaine. He arrested Marque Anthony Alston, 20 of Chesapeake Beach, and charged him with possession of cocaine and possession with the intent to use drug paraphernalia, clear packaging from a cigarette box, used to store/contain cocaine.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE: Sometime between January 16 at 3:00 p.m. and January 19 at 7:15 a.m. unknown suspect(s) broke into a truck owned by Bay Area Disposal while it was parked in their parking lot at 1595 Skinners Turn Road in Owings and stole a Garmin GPS unit valued at $165. DFC Michael Naecker is investigating the theft.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On January 17 at 1:31 a.m. after conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle near Prince Frederick Blvd. at Md. Rt. 231 in Prince Frederick, Dep. James Norton charged the driver, Christopher James Custer, 19 of St. Leonard, with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, small plastic baggies used to package a controlled dangerous substance; marijuana. A passenger in the vehicle, a seventeen-year-old male also from St. Leonard, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia on a youth report and released to a parent.
