MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Jan. 5, 2009) - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) released the following incident and arrest reports.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On Monday, December 29, 2008 at 8:49 pm, Tpr. M. Adams initiated a traffic stop on a red Toyota Celica on northbound Point Lookout Road, at Maypole Road in Leonardtown for an equipment violation. Upon contact with the driver, a 17 year-old male, of Loveville, an odor of burnt marijuana was detected. During the course of the traffic stop, the juvenile was found to be in possession of multicolored glass CDS smoking device containing marijuana. The juvenile was taken into custody, transported to the Leonardtown Barrack where he was processed and charged with possession of marijuana. He was released to his parent pending further action by Juvenile Services.

THEFT: On Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 4:24 pm, Tpr. N. Gresko responded to the 21000 block of FDR Blvd. in Lexington Park for the reported theft. Upon arrival contact was made with the female complainant, 55, of Lexington Park. She advised she parked her green Mongoose bicycle outside the Lexington Park Library in the bicycle rack unlocked. She returned approximately 15 minutes later her bicycle had been stolen. The bicycle was valued at $102.00 and the investigation continues.

ASSAULT: On Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 6:25 pm, a 23 year-old female of Hollywood responded to the Leonardtown Barrack to report she had been assaulted by Richard Earl Cropper, 26, of Hollywood. The complainant further advised she needed medical treatment and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital by the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad. Tpr. N. Gresko responded to the 23000 block of Hugh Drive in Hollywood and made contact with the suspect, Mr. Cropper who was arrested for 2nd Degree Assault. Mr. Cropper was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 8:17 pm, Matthew Scott Stone, 22, of Mechanicsville was arrested by Cpl. J. Linger for possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Stone was operating a black Cadillac on northbound Three Notch Road, south of Laurel Grove Road in Mechanicsville when he was stopped for an equipment violation. A plastic bag of marijuana was observed in plain view in the vehicle. Mr. Stone was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT UNDER $100: On Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 9:16 pm, Gokhan Donald Ihlan Oztas, 24, of Lexington Park was arrested by TFC E. Evans for theft under $100.00. TFC Evans responded to Hal's Deli in the 46000 block of South Shangri La Drive in Lexington Park for the reported theft in progress. Upon arrival, contact was made with the 33 year old male employee, who advised Mr. Oztas stole a bottle of Blue Sky Vodka and was engaged in a fight with the suspect inside store. The bottle of vodka was recovered and the suspect fled the store on foot. A broadcast was given of the suspect. A short time later, Mr. Oztas was taken into custody on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park and returned to the store where he was positively identified by the employee. Mr. Oztas was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

ILLEGAL DRUGS, RESISTING: On Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 9:30 pm, Tpr. M. Pitcher was patrolling Old Village Road, in the area of Mechanicsville Road in Mechanicsville when he attempted to stop a white Chevrolet on Mechanicsville Road when it turned onto Hills Lane. Contact was made with the driver, Robert Garry Jones, 45, of Mechanicsville. As subject exited the vehicle for field sobriety tests he fled on foot. After a short foot chase, Mr. Jones was taken into custody. Mr. Jones was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

TRESPASSING: On Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 10:40 pm, Tpr. M. Adams was conducting a patrol check of the Mrytle Point Park in California. He observed a gray Toyota Camry parked in front of the locked gate at the entrance. Tpr. Adams observed a 16 year-old male of Mechanicsville and a 17 year-old female of Hollywood walking out of the park. There is a sign at the entrance stating the Park is closed from December 1st until early Spring. Both juveniles were charged with trespassing on posted property and their parents responded to the scene to take custody of them. The case has been forwarded to Juveniles Services for further action.

POSSESSION OF CONCEALED DEADLY WEAPON: On Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 1:26 am, Stephen Chester Stewart, 33, of Meherrin, Va. was arrested by Tpr. J. Pilkerton for possession of a concealed deadly weapon. Mr. Stewart was operating a green Jeep Cherokee when he was stopped for exceeding the posted speed limit on Three Notch Road, south of Wildewood Blvd. in California. During the course of the traffic stop, Mr. Stewart was found to be in possession of chrome Guardian .380 handgun. Mr. Stewart was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT ARREST: On Monday, December 29, 2008 at 6:50 am, Tyrone Darnell Baker, 19, of Mechanicsville was arrested by Tpr. W. Jefferson on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13764) for Failing to Appear in District Court on December 24, 2008. The original charges were Possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Baker was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review.

WARRANT ARREST: On Monday, December 29, 2008 at 9:43 am, Lora Marie Christian, 32, of California was arrested by Tpr. M. Koock on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13582) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on August 22, 2008. Ms. Christian was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT ARREST: On Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 5:48 pm, Montez Wayne Chase, 18, of Lexington Park was arrested by Tpr. M. Adams on an outstanding Circuit Court Warrant (T3-13693) for True Bill Indictment for Possession of CDS not marijuana. Mr. Chase was served at the St. Mary's County Detention Center without incident.

WARRANT ARREST: On Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 2:00 am, Robert Garry Jones, 45, of Mechanicsville was arrested by Tpr. W. Jefferson on outstanding Bench Warrants (T3-13772) and (T3-13773) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Prince George's County on October 7, 2008 and September 19, 2008 respectively. The original charge on both warrants was Driving on a Suspended License. Mr. Jones was served the warrants at the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was already incarcerated on unrelated charged.

WARRANT ARREST: On Friday, January 2, 2009 at 12:10 pm, Rondale Montrel Faulkner, 22, of Culpeper, VA was arrested by Tpr. J. Gibson on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13446) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on June 6, 2008. Mr. Faulkner was extradited from the Middle River Regional Jail in the Culpeper, VA and incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT ARREST: On Friday, January 2, 2009 at 7:00 pm, James Robert Moron, Jr., 38, of California was arrested by Tpr. E. Page on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13760) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on December 19, 2008. The original charge was Driving on a Suspended License. Mr. Moron was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review.
