Calvert County Government Announces Holiday Schedule


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (December 21, 2009) – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners announced that county offices will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in observance of the Christmas holiday. County offices will reopen Monday, Dec. 28.

For the New Year holiday, all county offices will be closed Friday, Jan. 1, 2009. Offices will reopen Monday, Jan. 4. Commuter bus service and senior centers will also operate on this schedule. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

The county libraries will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24 through Saturday, Dec. 26 and will reopen with regular hours Monday, Dec. 28. Libraries will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 and will be closed for New Year’s Day. Libraries will reopen Saturday, Jan. 2.

The Appeal Landfill and all compactor sites will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24 and will reopen Saturday, Dec. 26 for regular business hours. The landfill and compactor sites will also close at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31 and will reopen Saturday, Jan. 2 for regular business hours.

The Division of Solid Waste will accept Christmas trees for recycling at all solid waste sites free of charge through Jan. 31, 2010. Trees must be from residential, non-commercial sources only. After Jan. 31, all Christmas trees must be taken to the Appeal Landfill where there will be a fee for disposal.

County solid waste facilities are also accepting gift wrapping paper, gift boxes and cardboard boxes for recycling. Paper and cardboard may be bagged together for recycling, but bows, ties, bags and plastic or Styrofoam packing materials should be removed. Bagged paper drop-off is available at the Appeal Landfill from Dec. 27 through Jan. 8 only.
