PORT TOBACCO, Md. (Dec. 16, 2009)—The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society will perform a concert of Christmas Carols from the 20th century followed by a dramatization of Gian-Carlo Menottis Amahl and the Night Visitors on December 19th at 7:30 p.m. and December 20th at 3:30 p.m.
Angela Powell, critically acclaimed lyric soprano, will appear in the role of the Mother. Ms. Powell has appeared in numerous operatic roles and is a long-time favorite of concert audiences at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Her work has also been enthusiastically received at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City and by audiences in Rome, Prague, and Vienna.
Tony Teleky will appear in the role of Amahl, and the three kings will be portrayed by John Sheer, Michael Mickey, and Larry Robinson.
The concert, under the direction of Michael K. Santana with assistant director Peter Ullmann, will feature Embers, an original work with music composed by W.G. Pete Stokes, a CCAS member. Christmas Carols, from the 20th century, will include A Babe is Born, A Child is Born In Bethlehem, What Cheer, I Saw Three Ships, Star of Bethlehem.
For the first time, the CCAS will hold its winter concert on the stage of the Fine Arts Center Theatre at the College of Southern Maryland in La Plata.
