Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (Dec. 15, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT OF APPLIANCES: On December 14 at 7 a.m., officers responded to the 11000 block of Monaghan Place in White Plains for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed between December 12 - December 14, unknown suspects broke into several apartments under construction and stole washers, dryers, and ranges. During the burglary, the suspects cut several water lines which caused two apartments to flood. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. Anyone with information is asked to call the Charles County Sheriff's Office at (301) 932-2222. Officer J.R. Long is investigating.

SECOND DEGREE BURGLARY: On December 14 at 1:46 a.m., officers responded to R & H Paints in the 11000 block of Central Avenue in Waldorf for the report of a burglary. Investigation revealed unknown suspects drove a car partially through the bay door and stole automotive parts and tools. In addition, a car was stolen from the parking lot. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. The stolen car was recovered a few hours later in Anne Arundel County. PFC J.L. Clagett is continuing the investigation.

CARJACKING: On December 13 at 1:57 a.m., officers were flagged down by a citizen who reported he had been carjacked after leaving the Pure Club at 2427 Crain Highway in Waldorf. The victim said as he was entering his car when an unknown suspect approached, displayed a handgun and demanded his keys. The victim complied and the suspect fled in a white, Nissan Armada. Officer R. Forbes is investigating.

FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT: On December 13 at 1:08 a.m., officers working secondary employment at My Brothers Place at 3081 Old Washington Road in Waldorf, heard gunshots as patrons were exiting the club. Officers canvassed the area and found a 17-year-old male in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his buttock. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a non life-threatening injury. At this point, a motive has not been established and the investigation is on-going. MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE DRUGS: On December 12 at 11:19 a.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer initiated a traffic stop in the 100 block of Kalmia Court in La Plata. As the officer approached the car, the driver, Carlos Antonio Watson, 19, of Nanjemoy, jumped out of the passenger door and attempted to flee. Watson was apprehended a short distance away after a brief struggle. During the arrest, Watson put several small baggies of crack cocaine in his mouth but officers were able to get them away; a total of nine bags were recovered. Watson was charged with possession with intent to distribute. Officer J. Walter made the arrest.

MAN CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT AND RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT: On December 12 at 5:44 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 6200 block of Sun Brook Place in Bryantown for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 33-year-old male, with a gunshot wounds to his legs. Witnesses said the suspect, Donald Jerome Butler, 52, of Bryantown, was still in the area and was armed with a shotgun. A perimeter was established and officers located the Butler a short distance away. He was taken into custody without incident.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim went to Butler's house and an argument ensued. During the argument, friends of the victim attempted to get him to leave at which point Butler fired a shot toward the victim, striking him in his legs. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non life - threatening injuries. Butler was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. Detective C. Shankster is investigating.

BURGLARY: Between December 10 - December 11, unknown suspects broke into the kitchen area of Milton Somers Middle School at 300 Willow Lane in La Plata, and stole a small safe. Officer D. Kabala is investigating.

FUGITIVE ARRESTED: On December 10 at 9:10 p.m., officers responded to the 16000 block of Hawks Nest Place in Issue after receiving information that David Vernon Farrell, 37, was inside the house; Farrell had an open warrant for failure to appear. Upon seeing the officers, Farrell attempted to flee through a rear door but was apprehended at which point officers found marijuana in his pocket. Farrell was charged with possession of marijuana and served the open warrant. Officer W. Dennin made the arrest.
