PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Dec. 14, 2009)—The Calvert County Sheriff's Office announced that they will be conducting DUI saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints at various locations throughout the county on Friday, December 18, during the evening hours. Funding for the effort is being provided by the Checkpoint Strikeforce program.
"The purpose of these sobriety checkpoints is to aid deputies in identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways," according to a sheriff's office press release. "We believe that a substantial benefit will continue to be gained from the use of sobriety checkpoints. Increasing the impaired driver's perceived risk of detection may deter him or her from driving while under the influence or while impaired by alcohol or drugs."
