HUGHESVILLE, Md. (Dec. 14, 2009)—Employees of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) recently donated more than $25,000 to the Southern Maryland Food Bank, part of Catholic Charities Enterprises. The money will help the non-profit agency provide food to nearly 40 pantries, group homes, and shelters that serve needy families in southern Maryland.

SMECO employees collected the money through fund-raising efforts in 2009, including the annual Charity Golf Tournament. Each year, SMECO selects a different charity to benefit from employee contributions.
