Regional Consortium Awards Fuel Contract

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Dec. 7, 2009)—The Southern Maryland Cooperative Purchasing Committee, comprised of representatives from the three Southern Maryland public school systems and the three county governments, selected Mansfield Oil Company to supply heating oil, gas and fuel from Dec. 1, 2009 through Nov. 30, 2010 at its November 12 meeting after reviewing the bid sheets from the vendors. The contract includes options to renew for two additional one-year periods.

The request for bids to supply these six organizations with fuel attracted nine bidders. Nine bids were received; the most responsive and responsible bid came from Mansfield Oil Company, a business based in Georgia. The committee was created in 1990 by the State of Maryland and charged with developing a cooperative proposal to solicit competitive bids and selecting the vendor.

"By purchasing the fuel through a regional purchasing committee, we all save needed dollars," explained Francis Jack Russell, President, Board of County Commissioners for St. Mary's County. "This contract will stabilize expenses for this volatile part of our budgets. We commend the members of the committee for their hard work and diligence at securing the best price for this critical commodity."
