LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Dec. 2, 2009)—Gerald Gerome Keemer, 43, of Lusby, was arrested and charged
Tuesday afternoon in connection with the hit and run accident in Lexington park earlier that day where a four year-old child was struck by a vehicle.

Tuesday
at approximately 1:24 p.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a hit and run accident on Brighton Avenue in Lexington Park. Police determined that a 2007 Kia 4-door passenger vehicle operated by Keemer was traveling northbound on Brighton Avenue when a 4-year-old male entered the roadway. Police say Keemer's vehicle struck the juvenile. Keemer briefly exited the vehicle and made contact with the care giver of the child. Keemer then reentered his vehicle and left the scene of the collision prior to the arrival of deputies.
The 4-year-old was flown by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 to Children's Hospital where he was admitted for his injuries.
Police say information from the scene led to the development of Gerald Gerome Keemer as the possible operator of the suspect vehicle.

Tuesday
at approximately 4:40 p.m., Keemer responded to the St. Mary's Sheriff's District IV Station where he was met by deputies, transported to Sheriff's Office Headquarters and interviewed. At the conclusion of the interview, Keemer was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and driving while his license is suspended.
Keemer was incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center awaiting an appearance before a St. Mary's County District Court Commissioner.
