Pedestrian Killed in Mechanicsville


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Dec. 1, 2009)—James Thomas Yorkshire, of Mechanicsville, was struck and killed by a vehicle as he walked along, or was crossing, MD Route 235 in Mechanicsville on Monday. The Maryland State Police today released the following details of the accident:

On Monday, November 30 at approximately 2052 hours, troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on northbound MD Route 235, south of Valley Wood Court in Mechanicsville. Upon arrival, a single male victim was located in the median. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and attempted life saving measures, but the victim succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Members of the Maryland State Police Collision Reconstruction Team responded to assist in the investigation.

Initial investigation revealed the victim, a black male identified as James Thomas Yorkshire, DOB 4/19/1924, of Mechanicsville, was walking in, or crossing the roadway. He was struck by a vehicle that was operating northbound on MD Route 235. The accident occurred during hours of darkness, during light drizzle and Yorkshire was wearing dark clothing. There is no evidence to indicate that alcohol, drugs or excessive speed were factors in this accident. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Trooper Pitcher of the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack.
