Piney Point Lighthouse Museum Offers Holiday Exhibit


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Nov. 30, 2009)—The Piney Point Lighthouse, Museum and Historic Park will present a holiday exhibit entitled "I'll Be Home for Christmas" to be viewed in the lighthouse keeper's quarters located on the south campus of the facility. The exhibit will showcase Christmas as it would have been celebrated in five different time periods. One can view a nostalgic variety of Christmas trees, ornaments and holiday music. Museum staff and volunteers will offer tours of the exhibit, museum, lighthouse, and maritime exhibit and the lighthouse tower will be available for a climb to the top.

The Lighthouse Lens Museum Store will be open with an array of unique gifts, lighthouse and nautical items, jewelry, clothing, home décor and children's items. Museum gift memberships are the perfect gift for the "one who has everything."

The museum and holiday exhibit will be open 12 noon to 4 p.m. on December 12, 13, 19, and 20 and daily from December 26 through January 3, 2010. Admission is $3 per adult, $2 for senior citizens and military personnel, $1.50 for children 6 to 18, and free for kids 5 and under. All are invited to the museum's Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 13 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The Piney Point Lighthouse, Museum and Historic Park is managed by the museum division of St. Mary's County Department of Recreation and Parks and the Board of County Commissioners for St. Mary's County. The facility is located at 44720 Lighthouse Road in Piney Point. The museum, maritime exhibit and grounds are handicap accessible.
