Charles Received $114,000 from State for Recreational Projects


ANNAPOLIS (Oct. 8, 2009) — Governor Martin O’Malley on Wednesday announced Board of Public Works approval of land acquisition and recreational projects in Caroline, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Harford, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Worcester Counties through Program Open Space.

Charles County will receive a total of $114,000 for the folowing projects:

-- $50,000 for additional playground equipment at Caroline drive and Patuxent Court Parks;

-- $24,000 to install playground borders around play areas in five of La Plata's town parks to contain the wood carpet safety mulch under the playground equipment;

-- $40,000 to resurface La Plata’s two tennis courts, one located in Wills Park, the other located in Silver Linden Park.

The three-member Board of Public Works is comprised of Governor O’Malley (chair), Treasurer Nancy Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot. The BPW is authorized by the General Assembly to approve major construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
