Local Man Perishes in House Fire

BRYANS ROAD, Md. (September 10, 2009)—Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing with their investigation into the cause of a one-alarm fire that claimed the life of a 62 year-old man.

The September 9, 10:03 p.m. house fire located in the 2100 block of Marshall Hall Road was reported to the Charles County Emergency Operations Center by a passerby. When firefighters from Bryans Road, Potomac Heights, Marbury, Accokeek and Indian Head arrived they found flames venting through the front window and roof of the one-story home. A deceased male was later found on the dining room floor.

Deputy State Fire Marshals and investigators with the Charles County Sheriff's Office have determined the origin of the fire to be in the living room. It is believed the man lived alone. Deputy State Fire Marshals have determined there were no smoke alarms in the home.

The body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where a forensic examination will be conducted to identify the deceased and to determine the cause of death.

The cause for the fire remains under investigation.
