LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 1, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
ATTEMPT ROBBERY: On Aug. 31 at 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Barrington Drive in Waldorf for an attempt robbery. Investigation revealed the victim - a food delivery man - was in his car getting ready to deliver food when the suspect approached, lunged through the car window and tried to grab the food. The victim sped off and the suspect ran. Officers canvassed the area and learned the address in which the victim was going to deliver the food is a vacant house. Officer K. Gross is investigating.
ATTEMPT ROBBERY AND ASSAULT: On Aug. 31 at 4:45 a.m., officers responded to the Bryans Road Shopping Center at 3065 Marshall Hall Road in Bryans Road for the report of an attempt robbery and assault. Investigation revealed the victim - a newspaper delivery man - was sitting in his car when the suspects approached, threw a brick through the front passenger window, sprayed him with pepper spray and began hitting him with a stick. Nothing was stolen but the victim believed the suspects were trying to rob him. The suspects were wearing dark-colored ski masks and dark clothing. They may have been driving a small, light-colored SUV. Officer J. Plunkett is investigating.
BURGLARY: On Aug. 30 at 10:46 a.m., officers responded to the 6700 block of Leonardtown Road in Bryantown for the report of a burglary. Investigation revealed sometime between Aug. 19 - Aug. 30, while the victim was out of town, unknown suspects kicked in the front door of the house and stole several guitars and other musical equipment. Officer M. Hancock is investigating.
THEFT FROM AUTOS: On Aug. 30 between 1 a.m. - 7:30 a.m., unknown suspects stole the wheels and tires off of two vehicles in Waldorf: one in the 3600 block of Yorktown Road and the other in the 3400 block of Williamsburg Drive. Both vehicles were left on cinderblocks. The scene was processed. Officer D. Major is investigating.
ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: On Aug. 30 at 12:21 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Savanna Drive in La Plata for a report of a large fight. Officers responded but did not locate a fight. Shortly after, one of the officers observed an intoxicated male fighting with several people as they attempted to drive him home. As the officer intervened, the suspect, Dwaine Patrick Hawkins, 25, of La Plata, attempted to hit the officer. Hawkins was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Officer M. DePaulo made the arrest.
BURGLARY: On Aug. 30, officers responded to the 6700 block of Budds Creek Road in Newburg for a report of a break-in. Investigation revealed sometime between Aug. 21-Aug. 29, unknown suspects broke into a vacant rental house and stole an air conditioning unit. The homeowner also reported that a power washer and paint sprayer had been stolen in July. The scene was processed for evidence. Officer M. Hancock is investigating.
