MSP Reports for Calvert County


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Sept. 1, 2009) - The Prince Frederick Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS: The Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint during Labor Day Weekend. The operation will be conducted with the five state and the District of Columbia campaign, "Checkpoint Strikeforce". The goal is to reduce the number of drunk and drugged drivers on Calvert County roadways. The members of the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack are dedicated to preventing alcohol related collisions and will continue to conduct these types of operations throughout the calendar year.

SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT: On Aug. 31 at 08:47 a.m., Tpr Lewis of the Prince Frederick Barrack responded to a motor vehicle collision on eastbound Mt. Harmony Rd at Rue Ct., Owings, Calvert County. Preliminary investigation revealed that Brian James Mackall of Owings, MD was driving a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 pick up truck eastbound on Mt. Harmony Road near Rue Ct. For an unknown reason, Mackall’s vehicle crossed the double yellow centerline into westbound traffic and struck another vehicle head-on. The second vehicle was identified as a 1998 Lincoln Continental operated by Phillip Alexander Sullivan of North Beach, MD. The passenger in the Lincoln was identified as Louise Adele Sullivan, also of North Beach. The occupants of the Lincoln were transported by MSP Medevac helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital. The operator of the Chevrolet was transported by ambulance to Prince George’s Hospital. The collision is still under investigation.

PURSE THEFT SUSPECT TO BE CHARGED: On July 3, members of the sheriff's office responded to two local businesses in reference to an unknown suspect stealing women's purses. The first theft occurred at 11:30 a.m. at Giant in Prince Frederick, the second occurred minutes later at Wal-Mart also in Prince Frederick. The victims had briefly turned away from their shopping carts leaving their purses unattended. Det. S. Brown of the Calvert Investigative Team was assigned these cases for further investigation. During the course of the investigation Det. Brown reviewed surveillance footage and identified Carl Joseph Siegel, 24 of Chesapeake Beach, as a suspect in the thefts. Det. Brown contacted and interviewed Siegel who admitted stealing the purses from the victims at Giant and Wal-Mart. Charges related to these cases are pending.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On August 19 at 11:00 p.m., Trooper First Class Merkelson stopped to check the welfare of a pedestrian on the shoulder of southbound Rt. 4, south of Rt. 260 in Dunkirk. Anthony J. Sellers, Jr., 37 of Chesapeake Beach, was found to be in possession of marijuana. He was arrested and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE: On August 20 at 5:07 p.m., Trooper Cavill responded to the 600 block of Lisa Lane, Lusby, for a reported theft. Unknown suspect(s) had removed a GPS and Radar Detection Unit from the victim's vehicle.

THEFT: On August 21 at 1:52 p.m., Trooper Saucerman responded to the 3000 block of Warren Gibson Rd., Huntingtown, for a reported theft. Unknown suspect(s) had stolen several pieces of lawn equipment from the victim's trailer.

THEFT: On August 22 at 2:57 p.m., Trooper First Class Bowling responded to the Bayside Chevrolet/Toyota on Solomons Island Rd., Pr. Frederick, for a reported theft. While test driving a vehicle, the victim had placed his wallet in the center console. Upon returning to the dealership to complete the necessary paperwork, the wallet had been removed. Investigation revealed Jeffrey A. Nalls, Jr., 18 of Port Republic, took the item and after removing the cash, had discarded the wallet in a storm drain. The cash and the wallet were recovered. Charges against Nalls are pending.

THEFT OF TAGS: On August 23 at 6:30 p.m., Trooper Lewis responded to Mason Rd., Prince Frederick, for a reported theft. Unknown suspect(s) had removed the Maryland Registration tags from the victim's vehicle.

THEFT OF HEAT PUMP: On August 24 at 6:30 a.m., Trooper Saucerman responded to a business in the 9800 block of Old Solomons Island Rd., Owings, for a reported theft of a heat pump. A Carrier heat pump had been taken from the side of the building.

THEFT: On August 24 at 3:24 p.m., Trooper First Class Greggs responded to the Office Building at 130 Hospital Rd., Prince Frederick, for a reported theft. The manager of the office where the theft occurred stated that unknown suspect(s) had removed cash from a small lock box. Investigation continues.

THEFT OF MOTORCYCLES: On August 24 at 8:00 p.m., Trooper First Class Lass responded to the 11400 block of H. G. Trueman Rd., Lusby, for a reported theft of two motorcycles. A Kawasaki KLX110 green/white motorcycle and a Yamaha TTR125 blue/white with missing back fender had been removed from the back yard of the residence by unknown suspect(s).
