LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Aug. 31, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) recently released the following incident and arrest reports. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.
SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILD: In late May 2009, detectives began investigating the sexual child abuse of a female victim, which occurred in Mechanicsville during 2001 and 2002. The abuse began when the victim was seven years-old. Detectives arrested Brian A. Weese, age 41, from Owings, on August 25 and charged him with 2nd Degree Rape, 2nd Degree Sexual Offense, 3rd Degree Sexual Offense and Child Abuse. He was incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
ASSAULT: Detectives are investigating a reported assault which occurred on August 29 at approximately 3:30 p.m. at Mark's Electronics in California. A black male, described as being approximately 5'6", 140 pounds, wearing blue jeans, black shirt and tan gloves, entered the store and physically attacked the female clerk. The clerk resisted the attacker and he fled on foot. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crime Solvers at (301) 475-3333.
DROWNING: On August 30 at approximately 2:30 p.m., police and EMS personnel responded to Abell's Wharf in Leonardtown for a reported drowning. Alejandro Bardales Ortiz, age 39, of Leonardtown, waded into the water and disappeared. He was found in approximately 6 feet of water not breathing by a friend and other people in the area, who then started CPR. He was pronounced dead at St. Mary's Hospital. Detectives are investigating and there is no indication of foul play.
THEFT SCHEME, ILLEGAL DRUGS: Detectives, investigating a theft scheme that occurred between April 10 and April 24, conducted a search and seizure warrant at a residence in Mechanicsville on August 26. During the service of the warrant Jonathan L. Butler, age 21, was found in possession of cocaine. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center. Patricia A. Butler, age 51, was arrested and charged with a Theft Scheme Over $500, Theft Over $500, and Theft Under $500. Her arrest was the result of an investigation into the obtaining of fraudulent money orders valued at over $9000.00. She was also incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
