LA PLATA, Md. (Aug. 19, 2009) - The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) recently released the following incident and arrest reports.
DUI CHECKPOINT AUG. 21: Maryland State Police have announced that they will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Aug. 21. The checkpoint will be conducted within the Charles County area during the evening hours. The operation will focus on reducing the number of drunk and drugged drivers on Charles County roadways.
ILLEGAL DRUGS: On August 13 at approximately 0030 hours, Trooper M. Bonczewski was traveling southbound U.S. Route 301, north of Plaza Drive when he observed a tan Lexus with a non functioning tail light. Trooper Bonczewski stopped the vehicle and made contact with Jamal Rasheen Shivers, age 19, of Ft. Washington, when he smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Shivers and his passenger, Paul Lawrence Baker, age 22, of Waldorf, were arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
ILLEGAL DRUGS: On August 13 at approximately 2334 hours, Trooper C. McCombs was traveling on northbound Route U.S. 301, south of Acton Lane when he observed a green Subaru Impreza with a tag border covering the expiration date on the license plate. Trooper McCombs stopped the vehicle and made contact with Erika Nicole Cook, age 24, of District Heights, when he smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Cook as arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
