LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Aug. 16, 2009)—A Mechanicsville woman is dead as the result of a single car accident on Friday around 3:40 p.m. Dawn Marie Buckler, age 45, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Chaptico Road in Chaptico.
Police say a 1998 Ford Escort driven by Buckler was traveling southbound on Chaptico Rodd when the vehicle crossed the centerline and went off the pavement on the northbound side. The vehicle then struck a mailbox before continuing and striking a tree head on.
Police say speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the accident.
The accident was investigated by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team.
