Two Perish in Two Separate Motorcycle Accidents Sunday in Charles

LA PLATA, Md. (Aug. 10, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the fatal accident reports.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION: On August 9 at 3:04 p.m., officers responded to Billingsley Road in the area of Cattle Place in White Plains for a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. Investigation revealed a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south on Billingsly Road when the vehicle crossed the center line striking a motorcycle that was traveling north on Billingsley Road. Five occupants of the vehicle - who range in the age of 14 to 19 years old - immediately fled on foot. The operator of the motorcycle, Anthony Trilli, 47, of Indian Head, was pronounced dead on the scene. A check of the Volkswagen's registration revealed it had been stolen the previous day in Indian Head. Officers set up a perimeter, canvassed the area and located the suspects about thirty minutes later near Bensville Park. Charges are pending further investigation and additional review with the State's Attorney's Office. The Major Crimes Unit and Traffic Operations Unit are continuing the investigation.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH: On August 9 at 12:27 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the area of Bumpy Oak Road and Gwynn Road in Bryans Road for the report of a motorcycle crash. Investigation revealed Marc Elliott Gant, 47, of Ft. Belvoir, was traveling north on Bumpy Oak Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, lost control and ran off the roadway. Another cyclist - who was traveling in Gant's group - then lost control of her motorcycle and crashed. Gant was transported to Civista Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The female operator was flown to Prince George's Hospital Center where she is in serious condition. Officer R. Williams of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
