Dog Licenses Now Required in St. Mary's County

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Aug. 5, 2009)—Annual licenses for dogs in St. Mary's County are required and can be purchased in the County Treasurer's Office in the Patuxent Building in Leonardtown, the Animal Control Office in the Public Safety Building in Leonardtown, at the Well Pet Clinic in Lexington Park (301-866-0303), All Kinds Veterinary Hospital in Callaway (301-994-9919) and the Tri County Animal Shelter in Hughesville (301-932-1713).

The licenses cost $2.00 per pet for spayed or neutered animals; the cost rises to $7.50 for non-spayed or non-neutered animals. To receive the discounted prices, residents must show proof that their animal is spayed or neutered and a current rabies vaccination is required to obtain the license.

The fee can be paid with cash or a money order or check made payable to the St. Mary's County Treasurer.

The license period runs from July 1 to June 30 and tags need to be purchased by August 31 to avoid a $2 late penalty.
