LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Aug. 3, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) recently released the following incident and arrest reports.
KIDNAPPING, RAPE: On August 3, BCI detectives arrested Shawn M. Clark, age 17, of Lexington Park, and charged him as an adult with Second Degree Rape, Kidnapping and Second Degree Assault. The arrest was the result of an investigation into a July 31 incident where Clark offered to give a 19-year-old female a ride from Lexington Park to Ridge. Clark drove the victim to a secluded area of Dameron where he forcibly raped her and left her there. The victim went to a nearby home and police were summoned. She was treated at St. Mary's Hospital. Clark was incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
ASSAULT: On July 29 at approximately 6 pm., a 15-year-old female was traveling with three other people in a car on Kavanaugh Road in Mechanicsville. An then unknown suspect threw a piece of concrete through the driver's side window of the vehicle in which she was a rear seat passenger, striking her in the head. The victim, a resident of Waldorf, sustained a fractured skull and was flown by Medstar to Washington Hospital Center. On July 31 at approximately 12:30 pm, BCI detectives charged Trevis L. Butler, age 27, of Mechanicsville, with 2 counts of second degree assault for the incident. Detectives learned that Butler was on work release from the St. Mary's County Detention Center when the assault occurred. Additional charges are pending a review by the States Attorney's Office. Butler remains at the Detention Center where he was already incarcerated on unrelated charges.
BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.
