Lexington Park Man Gets 160 Months for Cocaine Conspiracy


GREENBELT, Md. (July 21, 2009) - U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced James Robert Shade, a/k/a “Buck Shade,” age 27, of Lexington Park, on July 16 to 160 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and cocaine base (crack), announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.

According to his plea agreement, from January to September 2008 , Shade obtained cocaine and crack cocaine from co-defendant Tyron Butler. Shade, Butler, Larray Maddox and Joseph Maddox, Jr. converted the cocaine into crack cocaine and sold it to customers in many locations in St. Mary’s County, including Lexington Park. Law enforcement agents monitored sales of the crack cocaine.

Law enforcement searched Shade’s residence on September 11, 2008, where he was arrested, and recovered three digital scales and a quantity of marihuana.

Shade admitted that he was responsible for distributing between 50 and 150 grams of crack cocaine.

Larray Anthony Maddox, a/k/a “Ray Ray,” age 27, of Callaway, Maryland pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Joseph Alosius Maddox, Jr., a/k/a “Junior Maddox,” age 43, of Great Mills, Maryland and Tyron Anthony Butler, a/k/a Red Dog, age 30, of Lexington Park, pleaded guilty to the drug conspiracy and were sentenced to 10 and nine years in prison, respectively.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration and St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron and his office for their investigative work in this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys James A. Crowell IV, Barbara S. Skalla, and Mara B. Zusman, who prosecuted the case.
