ANNAPOLIS (July 16, 2009)—More than 50 shooter qualification sessions have been scheduled at 17 locations across the state this year. These events allow hunters to take the shooting proficiency test that is required before participating in many of the managed deer hunts held in Maryland each year.
The Department of Natural Resources has a standardized shooting proficiency requirement for many of the managed deer hunts conducted by local, state and federal agencies across Maryland, according to DNRs Assistant Deer Project Leader George Timko. The system allows a hunter to satisfy the shooting proficiency requirements of these agencies by qualifying one time at a single location each year.
Many of the organizations that host these events charge a minimal fee to cover expenses.
A schedule of sessions is available at http://www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/shoot_qual_cal.asp. DNR says they will continue to update the online Maryland Shooter Qualification Sessions Calendar as additional events are scheduled.
