LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 14, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
ASSAULT & HINDERING: On July 11, Cpl. P. Handy was investigating a reported shooting near a residence on Lexington Court in Great Mills. Cpl. Handy was at the reported victim of the shooting complaint residence. As Cpl. Handy attempted to enter the residence to check for possible victims, Charles Aloysius Bowman, 46 of Great Mills, attempted to prevent Cpl. Handy from entering into the residence. Bowman stepped in front of the Corporal, placed his hand on the Corporal's chest and attempted to push the Corporal back. Bowman was arrested, charged with second-degree assault, and hindering.
ASSAULT: On July 12, deputies responded to a report of an assault in progress. Investigation revealed Michael Wayne Miller, 47 of Newburg, was involved in a verbal argument with one victim, which escalated into a physical assault when Miller pushed the victim. Miller then punched a second victim, who had nothing to do with the verbal altercation in the face. Miller was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree assault.
ASSAULT: On July 12, deputies responded to La Quint Inn located in California for a report of an assault. Investigation revealed Micah Alann Martin, 22 of Chapman Village, Pa., described by witnesses ad very intoxicated an unruly, assaulted the front desk clerk and his roommate. Martin also shattered a first floor window of the Inn. Martin fled prior to the arrival of the deputies but was located a short time later.
ATTEMPTED MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT: On July 12, on Morningside Drive in Lexington Park, Steven Michael Curtis, 22 of Lexington Park, and Justin Paul Weckel, 19 of El Paso, Texas were observed attempting to steal a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle by placing it in a U-haul truck. Prior to the motorcycle being loaded into the U-haul, Curtis and Weckel were confronted by the victim, and fled in the truck. Curtis and Weckel were stopped a short time later driving the truck. Curtis and Weckel were arrested for the attempted theft.
ASSAULT: On July 12, deputies responded to a report of an assault. Investigation revealed Rodney Glenn Battle, Jr. 22 of California was in a verbal dispute, which escalated into a physical assault when Battle slapped the victim and forced the victim's head into a wall. Battle was charged with second-degree assault.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On July 12, deputies responded to Hunting Meadows Court in Callaway for a report of a disorderly subject exposing himself. Deputies arrived and found Ricky Ray Hewlett, 57 of no fixed address, lying on the ground blocking the doorway to three town homes. Cpl. C. Earle asked Hewlett if he was injured. Hewlett began cursing and told Cpl. Earle he was fine. Approximately 20 residents were standing in the parking lot observing Hewlett's disorderly behavior. Cpl Earle asked Hewlett numerous times to lower his voice and discontinue the profane language. Hewlett refused and was arrested for disorderly conduct.
