MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 13, 2009) - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG ARREST: On Friday, July 10 at 3:44 am, two male juveniles, one 17, of Hollywood, the other, 16, of Leonardtown and Joshua Edward Peeling, 21, of Hollywood were arrested by Cpl. J. L. Linger for possession of Marijuana. The 17 year-old male juvenile was operating a black Ford Escape on Hollywood Road when he was stopped at St. John's Road in Hollywood for exceeding the posted speed limit. When contact was made with the occupants a strong odor of burnt Marijuana was detected. All three subjects were found to be in possession of Marijuana and a partially burnt Marijuana cigar. Both juveniles were charged with possession of Marijuana and released into the custody of a legal guardian pending further action by Juvenile Services. Mr. Peeling was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Friday, July 10 at 5:45 pm, Richard James Rhodes Sr., 37, of Leonardtown was arrested by TFC J. A. Pilkerton on two outstanding Bench Warrants (T3-14021) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on July 8. The original charge was Possession of Marijuana and Driving on a Revoked License and (T3-14022) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on July 8. The original charge was Theft over $500.00. Mr. Rhodes was served at the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DUI AND DRUG ARREST: On Friday, July 10 at 9:58 pm, Cody Joseph Holtkamp, 19, of Charlotte Hall and Larry Lester Steele, 46, of Beth Page, TN were arrested by Tpr. M. J. Pitcher. Tpr. Pitcher initiated a traffic stop on a tan Toyota Avalon in the parking lot of the Charlotte Hall Motel after he observed the passenger, Mr. Steele, not restrained by his seat belt. Upon contact with Mr. Holtkamp, a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected emitting from Koltkamp's breath. A distinct odor of burnt Marijuana was emitting from within the vehicle. After unsatisfactory performance of roadside Field Sobriety test, Mr. Holtkamp was placed under arrest for DUI. A green metal smoking device with Marijuana and a partially burnt Marijuana cigarette were observed in plain view in the center console ashtray. Mr. Holtkamp was charged with DUI and Possession of Marijuana. Mr. Steele was charged with Possession of Marijuana. Both individuals were transported to the Leonardtown Barrack while Mr. Holtkamp was being processed for DUI. Both were then transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where they were charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Sunday, July 12 at 3:10 am, William Jervon Butler, 28, of Mechanicsville was arrested by Cpl. J. L. Linger for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of CDS paraphernalia. Mr. Butler was operating a gray Audi A6 when he was stopped for exceeding the posted speed limit on Mechanicsville Road in the area of Guy Farm Lane. Upon contact with Mr. Butler, an odor of burnt Marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. Mr. Butler was found to be in possession of a small plastic baggie of Marijuana. He was arrested and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
