LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 6, 2009)—The Mechanicsville Road Bridge Replacement Project is underway. Improvements to Mechanicsville Road will consist of removal and replacement of the deteriorated culverts crossing the roadway at Chaptico Creek. The culverts will be replaced with cast in place and prefabricated aluminum box culvert systems. Installation of these improvements, accompanied with horizontal and vertical alignment of the roadway, will provide increased efficiency of the roadway, facilitating local and commuter traffic traveling the Mechanicsville Road corridor.
A cooperative project between the St. Mary's County Board of County Commissioners and the State Highway Administration, the Mechanicsville Road Bridge Replacement Project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). ARRA provides supplemental appropriations for job preservation and creation, infrastructure investment, energy efficiency and science, assistance to the unemployed, and State and Local fiscal stabilization.
While work on the project is underway, residents may experience temporary inconveniences, such as roadway lane closures resulting in temporary detours, construction noise, and construction in the area.
a Public Informational Meeting has been scheduled for Monday, July 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Charlotte Hall Library Meeting Room located at the corner of MD Rte 6 and MD Rte 235 in Charlotte Hall to discuss the project.
