Body Found in Burned Out Vehicle Near Waldorf

WALDORF, Md. (July 1, 2009)—A joint investigation is being conducted by Deputy State Fire Marshals and criminal investigators with the Charles County Sheriff's Office in an attempt to determine the cause of a truck fire that killed one person.

The June 30, 8:20 p.m. truck fire was discovered and reported to Charles County 911 by nearby fishermen. When firefighters from Waldorf arrived, they discovered a Ford Ranger King Cab parked on the roadway near Forgotten Farm Place fully engulfed in flames.

It took firefighters approximately ten-minutes to extinguish the flames. When firefighters examined the interior of the cab they found the remains of a body sitting in the driver's seat.

Investigators have tentatively identified the person killed, but a positive identification and cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

Authorities say the joint investigation is continuing. They are asking anyone with information about this fire to call the "Maryland Arson Hotline" at 1800-492-7529 or the State Fire Marshals Southern Regional Office at 443-550-6820.
