PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, Md. (June 26, 2009) - Construction will begin July 6 on Patuxent River's Gate 1 with a projected completion date of Oct. 30. Construction will be conducted evenings and weekends. During this time, Gate 1 will be closed from 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. weekdays, and from 6:30 p.m. Fridays to 5:30 a.m. Mondays.
Gate 2 will be the 24-hour gate while construction takes place at Gate 1.
Improvements to Gate 1 will include installation of two new sentry houses, canopy, undercarriage inspection system, barriers, back-up generator, lighting and removable bollards for traffic control.
Closure times vary from earlier reports. The extra hour will allow time for crews to prepare for construction and clean up before the gate is open to traffic.
