PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, Md. (June 19, 2009) - From July 6 until Oct. 30, Gate 1 at Patuxent River Naval Air Station will undergo improvements including installation of two new sentry houses, canopy, undercarriage inspection system, barriers, back-up generator, lighting, and removable bollards for traffic control.
The improvements will provide the sentries with a better threat assessment capability against potential intruders and other threats to the primary entrance to the station. Additionally, the project will protect security guards performing vehicle inspections and identification checks during inclement weather and provide a ballistic-hardened facility for the sentries.
Construction at Gate 1 is scheduled to begin July 6. Gate closure will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and all day on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). During construction, Gate 2 will be open 24 hours a day. Construction is scheduled to end by Oct. 30.
