LA PLATA, Md. (June 11, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY ATTEMPT: On June 10 at 9:25 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the report of an attempted burglary that had just occurred at a residence in the 700 block of Brandon Circle in Waldorf. Their investigation revealed the suspect, later identified as Darren Ray Smith, 28, of Waldorf, had attempted to force entry into the house through a back door but fled when the homeowner confronted him. Officers, including a K9 Unit, searched for Smith and apprehended him in woods near Post Office Road. Further investigation revealed Smith had been attempting to steal a motorcycle from the victim’s backyard. Officers also recovered a BB gun resembling a real firearm, which the victim had observed concealed in Smith’s waistband during the confrontation. Smith was charged with first-degree burglary and possessing a concealed deadly weapon. Officer P. Deboe investigated.

MAN CHARGED WITH FOURTH -DEGREE BURGLARY: On June 6 at 4:01 a.m., officers responded to the 7400 block of Shirley Boulevard in Port Tobacco for the report of a burglary in progress. Investigation revealed the suspect broke a handle off a storm door and tried to pry open the front door. The homeowners heard the noise and blocked the door from being opened until police arrived. Officers located the suspect, Aadel Abdulaziz Said, 25, of La Plata, in the driveway. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree burglary. Officer J. McGuigan made the arrest.

MAN CHARGED WITH HANDGUN POSSESSION: On June 5 at 1:50 a.m., officers were patrolling the area of Longbow Court in Bryans Road when they observed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. As officers approached the car, they smelled marijuana. Officers found a partially smoked marijuana cigarette and crack cocaine on the driver. They also recovered a loaded handgun in the car. A computer check revealed the driver, Khiry Julian Terry, 20, of Bryans Road, had an open warrant for violating probation. Terry was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, and possession of a concealed deadly weapon. Officers W. Mayhew and J. Dodge made the arrest.

MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE DRUGS: On June 5 at 12:03 a.m., officers observed a group of suspects selling drugs in the parking lot of Mattawoman Seafood located at 5024 Hawthorne Road in Mason Springs. One of the suspects, Jonathan Roland Savoy, 28, of Fort Washington, was found to be in possession of 18 individually wrapped small bags of crack cocaine. He was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute. Officers E. Weaver, S. Grove and C. Strafella made the arrest.

BURGLARY: On June 3 at 2:45 p.m., officers responded to the 16000 block of Belmont Court in Hughesville for a burglary. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect entered the house after manipulating a loc on the sliding door. Once inside, the suspects stole china plates, figurines and a jewelry box. The scene was processed for evidence. Officer D. Walker is investigating.
