GREENBELT, Md. (June 8, 2009) - U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced Larray Anthony Maddox, a/k/a “Ray Ray,” age 27, of Callaway, Maryland today to 15 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and for being a felon in possession of ammunition, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein.
According to his plea agreement, from 2007 through September 2008, Maddox and James Shade, a/k/a “Buck Shade,” age 32, of Lexington Park, obtained cocaine and crack cocaine from co-defendant Tyron Butler. Maddox, Butler, Joseph Maddox, Jr. and Shade converted the cocaine into crack cocaine and sold it to customers at locations in the Leonardtown and Lexington Park areas of St. Mary’s County. Law enforcement agents monitored several sales of the crack cocaine.
Law enforcement searched the co-conspirators’ residences on September 11, 2008, arrested the conspirators and recovered: drug packaging material, 34 rounds of .380 ammunition and $1,455 from Larray Maddox’s home; three digital scales and a quantity of marihuana from Shade’s home; a cell phone used by Butler which contained text messages regarding his drug trafficking activities; and a microwave oven containing cocaine base residue and $3,997 from the home of Joseph Maddox, Jr.
Larray Maddox admitted that he was responsible for distributing between 150 and 500 grams of crack cocaine.
Joseph Alosius Maddox, Jr., a/k/a “Junior Maddox,” age 43, of Great Mills, Maryland pleaded guilty to the drug conspiracy and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Tyron Anthony Butler, a/k/a Red Dog, age 30, of Lexington Park, Maryland, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and was sentenced to nine years in prison. James Shade pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute five or more kilograms of powder cocaine and 50 or more grams of crack cocaine and is awaiting sentencing.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration and St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron and his office for their investigative work in this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys James A. Crowell IV, Barbara Skalla, and Mara B. Zusman, who prosecuted the case.
