Charles Commissioners Approve County Budgets

LA PLATA, Md. (June 2, 2009)—The Charles County Commissioners unanimously approved the Constant Yield Tax Rate and the General Fund Operating Budgets during their regular session on Thursday, May 21. The Constant Yield Tax Rate, which is currently at $1.026 per $100 of assessed value, will remain unchanged for Fiscal Year 2010, which begins July 1, 2009. 96.2 cents per $100 assessed value for real property and the Fire and Rescue tax rate at 6.4 cents per $100 assessed value equal the total assessment rate previously stated. The Fire and Rescue tax is distributed directly to the volunteer fire departments of Charles County.

The Commissioners also unanimously approved the following budgets during their session:

- Capital Improvement Program
- Environmental Services Fund
- Water & Sewer Budget
- Landfill Fund
- Inspection & Review Fund
- Recreation Fund
- White Plains Golf Course Fund
- Fees & Charges
- Town Tax Differentials for La Plata and Indian Head

“These are difficult times and everyone is happy when we have plenty of money,” said Commissioner President Wayne Cooper. “But I would like to remind our citizens that County workers have bitten the bullet. For instance, they will not receive Cost of Living increases or step pay increases. I commend them for offering to take furloughs and several other measures to preserve their jobs and the jobs of others.”
