Personnel Changes in St. Mary's Public Schools


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 2, 2009) - Several administrative appointments were made by the St. Mary's County Board of Education at its meeting of May 26, 2009.

The Board appointed Ms. Kelly Courtney to the position of assistant principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School. Ms. Courtney currently serves as a vice principal at Berry Elementary School in the Charles County Public School System. She began her career in education in 1993 as middle school science teacher at John Hanson Middle School in Waldorf, MD. Ms. Courtney earned a Master of Science degree in curriculum and instruction from Western Maryland College and a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Slippery Rock University.

Additionally, the Board appointed Mr. Curtis Alston to the position of assistant principal at Lexington Park Elementary School. Mr. Alston is currently serving as the dean of students at Bennett Middle School in Salisbury, MD. His experience also includes serving as a 6th grade mathematics teacher at Salisbury Middle School. He obtained a Master's degree in education administration from Salisbury University and a Bachelor's degree in human service systems from the University of Massachusetts, in Boston, MA.

Ms. Audrey Ellis was named assistant principal at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School. Ms. Ellis currently serves as an assistant principal at Fossil Hill Middle School in Fort Worth, TX. Her experience also includes serving as a mathematics teacher and department co-chair, a science teacher, and a physical education teacher. She obtained a Master of Science degree in education from McDaniel College and a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of Hartford, in West Hartford, CT.

These appointments become effective July 1, 2009.

In addition to the administrative appointments made by the Board of Education at its meeting of May 26, the following transfers were approved:

Mr. Paul Fancella, principal at Green Holly Elementary School, will transfer to the position of principal at Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School. Mr. Fancella will be replacing Ms. Barbara Eddy who was named assistant principal at the new Evergreen Elementary School.

Ms. Wauchilue Jackson-Snyder, a new appointment, will be replacing Mr. Paul Fancella as principal of Green Holly Elementary School.

Ms. Mary Moreland, an assistant principal at Greenview Knolls Elementary School, will transfer to the position of instructional resource teacher.

Mr. Jeff DiRenzo, assistant principal at Lexington Park Elementary School, will transfer to the position of assistant principal at Greenview Knolls Elementary School. Mr. Curtis Alston, a new appointment, will be replacing Mr. DiRenzo at Lexington Park Elementary.

Ms. Janet Fowler, an assistant principal at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School, will transfer to the position of assistant principal at Leonardtown Middle School. Ms. Audrey Ellis, a new appointment, will be replacing Ms. Fowler at Banneker Elementary.

Mr. Khaleel Desaque, an assistant principal at Leonardtown Middle School, will transfer to Park Hall Elementary School as an assistant principal.

Ms. Pat Koscinski, an assistant principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School, will transfer to Dynard Elementary School as an assistant principal. Ms. Kelly Courtney, a new appointment, will be replacing Ms. Koscinski at George Washington Carver Elementary.

These transfers become effective July 1, 2009.
