WALDORF, Md. (June 2, 2009)—Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Waldorf, along with the Charles County Sheriff's Office Teen Court juvenile justice program and Lifestyles of Maryland Foundation, Inc., is sponsoring a community clean up event, titled "The Big Clean," on Saturday, June 6, on school grounds and in the neighboring St. Charles communities.
The event is being held to encourage Stoddert students and members of the St. Charles community to help beautify and clean up areas within and around the school community. During the past two school years, Stoddert students have worked together to beautify the school grounds, including planting flowers, digging out ponds, painting and hanging bird houses, and spreading mulch.
Goals of the event include encouraging students to become active participants in maintaining their communities and promoting community involvement.
A local deejay is also providing music and Chik-fil-A restaurant is donating chicken breakfast sandwiches for the first 100 people to attend the event. Participants should bring work gloves and dress appropriately.
