Single Car Accident in Lexington Park Claims One Life

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 1, 2009)—A Lexington Park man is dead after suffering injuries in a single car accident in Lexington Park on Saturday. Steven Michael Campbell, age 21, was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police say Campbell was traveling southbound on Three Notch Rd., in the area of Buck Hewitt Rd., in a green 1996 Ford Explorer. Campbell drifted out of the far right lane of travel and struck an island median in the intersection of Three Notch Rd. and Buck Hewitt Rd. He then struck a light pole, sheering it from its moorings. The vehicle continued onto a second island median and struck a second light pole where the vehicle came to rest, according to police.

Cpl. Emory Johnson and DFC Timothy Reese, of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Reconstruction Team, investigated the accident.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Cpl. Johnson at 301-475-4200 ext. 9030.
