St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (May 25, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

MARIJUANA, RESISTING ARREST: On May 21, Sgt. Grumbles stopped a Dodge Avenger driven by Michael Ryan Norfolk, 20, of Callaway, for a traffic violation. Sgt. Grumbles detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath and person. Norfolk was asked to step from the vehicle. Cpl. Earle observed Norfolk reach into his pocket, pull out a white paper towel and drop it to the ground. The paper towel contained suspected marijuana. Norfolk was told he was under arrest for possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Norfolk refused to place his hands behind his a back to be handcuffed. Norfolk was eventually handcuffed. Norfolk spit on the deputies.

TRESPASSING, FALSE STATEMENT TO POLICE: On May 23, deputies responded to Hilton Drive in Lexington Park for a disturbance. Investigation revealed Tamara NMN Mitchell, 23, of Philadelphia, Pa. was asked several times by the owner of the residence to leave and she refused. Mitchell was again asked to leave in the presence of the deputies and she again refused to leave. Mitchell was arrested for trespassing. Mitchell initially provided a false name to the deputies. Her identity was later discovered during processing. Mitchell was charged with trespassing and giving a false name to law enforcement.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On May 24, deputies responded to Gelrud Court in Lexington Park for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed Karey Danielle Archer, 20, of Lexington Park, became disorderly when others in the residence refused to accompany her to the air show. Archer threw objects and destroyed several item in the house. Archer also physically assault two individuals by punching one victim and striking the other victim with a stick. Archer was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree assault.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On May 24, deputies responded to a residence on Foxchase Drive in Lexington Park in attempt to locate a wanted subject. Deputies made contact with David Leon Hutching, 53, of Great Mills, the owner of the residence voluntarily allowed the deputies to search his residence for the wanted subject. After Hutching allowed the deputies to enter the residence, he then became belligerent and began yelling profanity at the deputies. Hutching then took an aggressive fighting stance (left foot slightly in front of right foot, knees bent and fists clenched) towards Dfc. Stone. Hutching then lunged at Dfc. Stone in an attempt to "head butt" the deputy. Other deputies intervened, subdued and arrested Hutching. Hutching was charged with second-degree assault.

DWI, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On May 24, Dfc. J. Stone was patrolling the area of Three Notch Road and Hollywood Road when he stopped a 1991 Honda Accord driven by Sandra Renee Johnson 22 of Hollywood, for a traffic violation. While speaking with the Johnson, Dfc. Stone detected an odor of burn marijuana and observed a half burnt blunt packed with a green leafy substance in the ashtray of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a small jeweler bag containing suspected marijuana, electronic scale, and numerous small-unused zip lock plastic jewelers' baggies. Johnson was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance - marijuana and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia.
