Charles County Sheriff's Office News Briefs


LA PLATA, Md. (Dec. 1, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On Nov. 30 at 5:45 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 2500 block of Western Parkway in Waldorf for the report of a citizen robbery. Investigation revealed the victim was approached by three suspects who demanded his money. The suspects then struck the victim, knocked him to the ground and stole his money and cell phone. The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident. Officer J. Alpert is handling the investigation.

FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT: On Nov. 30 at 1:57 a.m., officers were dispatched to Lamont's in the 4400 block of Livingston Road in Indian Head for the report of a fight. Investigation revealed two men - a 23 year old and a 40 year old - were stabbed inside the business during an altercation with unknown suspects. Both victims were treated at a nearby hospital for non life-threatening injuries. At this point, it is not clear what prompted the altercation. Officer K. Burger handled the call.

BURGLARY ARREST: On Nov. 29 at 12:17 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 12300 block of Rock Point Road in Newburg for the report of a burglary in progress. Investigation revealed the homeowners were inside their house when they heard a window break. The homeowners looked outside and saw the suspect climbing through a window leading to the garage; they called police and provided a description. Officers arrived at the residence, established a perimeter and began searching for the suspect. At that point, officers observed the suspect near the garage and ordered him to surrender; the suspect refused and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the suspect, Ronald Wayne Johnson, 39, of King George, VA, was apprehended. He was charged with burglary and destruction of property. Cpl. J. Hastings and Officer A. Sullivan made the arrest.
