Woman Killed After Being Hit by Car on Crain Highway


Charles County Sheriff's Office Conducting Death Investigation

LA PLATA, Md. (Nov. 28, 2008)—A Mechanicsville woman is dead after being struck by a car on Crain Highway at McConnell Place in White Plains Wednesday evening around 7:58 p.m. Michelle Thornton, age 49, was pronounced dead on the scene by authorities.

Police believe Thornton was waiting at a bus stop with her boyfriend when the two started arguing. During the argument, she was struck by a car which was traveling north on Crain Highway.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and waited until police arrived.

Police would only say the boyfriend, 39, of Mechanicsville, was located on the scene.

Police say the circumstances resulting in Thornton's being struck by the vehicle are still under investigation.

Charles County Sheriff's officers and Maryland State Police responded to the incident.
