Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (Nov. 24, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG ARREST: On Nov. 23 at 6:33 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers observed a traffic violation at Billingsley Road near Piney Church Road in Waldorf. A traffic stop was initiated and upon approaching the car, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana. Officers recovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the car and arrested the 17-year-old driver. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and released to the custody of his parents. Officer J.L. Claggett made the arrest.

BURGLARY: On Nov. 23 at 1:59 a.m., officers responded to Dry Clean Central at 3138 Crain Highway in Waldorf for an intrusion alarm. When officers arrived, they discovered the side door to the business had been forced open. K-9 searched the store but the suspects had already fled. Officer J. Alpert is handling the investigation.

GUN ARREST: On Nov. 23 at 12:52 a.m., officers were working secondary employment at My Brother’s Place at 3081 Old Washington Road in Waldorf. As the club let out after an event, witnesses told officers that a fight broke out in a nearby parking lot and that a man was pointing a gun toward a semi-trailer which was parked on the lot. Officers observed the suspect running from the scene with what appeared to be a gun in his hand. While in pursuit of the subject, he attempted to hide behind the semi-trailer. After several verbal commands, the subject came from behind the trailer empty handed. Officers detained the subject and then went back to inspect the area in which he was hiding. A loaded, automatic gun was recovered and the suspect, Franklin Brown-Talante, 22, of Lanham, was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon. He was remanded to the Charles County Detention Center. Officer C. Baker made the arrest.

DRUG ARREST: On Nov. 22 at 5:35 a.m., officers executed a search and seizure warrant at a house in the 11700 block of Lancelot Drive in Waldorf as the result of an ongoing drug investigation. Officers recovered crack cocaine, marijuana, and related paraphernalia inside the house. The suspect, Kwasi Omatao Louard-Clark, 22, of Waldorf, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was remanded to the Charles County Detention Center. Officer J. Timko made the arrest.

BURGLARY: On Nov. 21 officers responded to the 12600 block of Shiloh Church Road in Newburg for the report of a break-in. Investigation revealed on that date between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., an unknown suspect gained entry to the victim's residence and stole several items including guns, ammunition, and small, digital devices. Officer S. Ashton is investigating.
BURGLARY: On Nov. 21 at 11:30 a.m., officers responded to the1700 block of Brightwell Court in Waldorf for the report of a burglary. Investigation revealed the suspects broke into the house through an unlocked window but fled without taking anything. Officer R. Christian is handling the investigation.
