CSM Donates Cafeteria Furniture to LifeStyles of Md.

LA PLATA, Md. (Nov. 9, 2008)—The College of Southern Maryland has partnered with LifeStyles of Maryland Foundation by donating furniture to the non-profit organization that will be used in its efforts to shelter and feed the homeless. The furniture donation is from the CSM Café at the La Plata Campus and included eight rectangle tables with booths, approximately 10 square tables, and 40 chairs which will be used in the two houses maintained by LifeStyles.

“Our organization provides shelter for those members of our community who are homeless. In addition to shelter we provide meals. We also work with a number of youth in the community. The furniture obtained from the college will provide the necessary equipment to meet these needs,” said Sandy O. Washington, executive director of LifeStyles.

Washington said that LifeStyles and the college have been partners for several years.

“We have worked with CSM to recruit individuals to the allied health field. We have collaborated on business development programs. We have provided education and outreach activities at our offices as well as provided presenters for CSM activities regionally. The college has been a tremendous assistance for individuals that we come in contact with trying to get their lives back together, especially women. Through the referrals made to many of the college programs over the years, hundreds of people have been introduced to the higher education arena,” she said.
