LEONARDTOWN, Md.—On September 27, deputies and crime laboratory technicians from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, at the request of the College of Southern Maryland's Criminal Justice Program, assisted Girl Scouts at Camp Winona in Hughesville with earning their law and order merit badges.
Detective Vyvyan Walker provided the scouts with an overview of how detectives conduct criminal case reviews. Detective Eric Walker taught the scouts about gangs. Crime laboratory technician Summer Porter demonstrated fingerprinting and crime laboratory technician Amanda Pilkerton provided instruction on crime scene sketching.
Eighty-three girl scouts from southern Maryland, ages 6 to 16 years, participated in the event.
Rachael Drake from CSM was the coordinator of the event.
