LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Oct. 20, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT: On October 18, 2008 at 11:12 a.m., deputies responded to a residence on Days End Lane in Mechanicsville for the report of a domestic disturbance. Investigation revealed Robert C. Bearden, 34, of Mechanicsville, physically assaulted the victim by choking her, throwing her to the floor, and striking her in the face by hand. Bearden was placed under arrest, charged with second degree assault and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending a bond review by the District Court Commissioner.
HINDERING, OBSTRUCTION: On October 18, 2008 at 2:57 a.m., Sdfc. Patrick Handy initiated a vehicle stop in the area of Lexington Court in Lexington Park. The passenger in the vehicle, John Otha Dickens, Jr., 19, of Lexington Park, began yelling profanity at the deputies as they made contact with the vehicle operator. Dickens was instructed several times to discontinue his actions or he would be arrested. Dickens continued his actions causing the attention of Sdfc. Handy to be diverted from the vehicle operator. Dickens continued to yell profanities for no apparent reason and was placed under arrest. Dickens was charged with hindering a police investigation and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending a bond review by the District Court Commissioner.
FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT: On October 16, 2008 at 10:47 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Mattapany Rd. in Lexington Park for the report of an assault. Investigation revealed Derek Guertler, 51, of Lexington Park, approached the victim and placed a 12-Gauge Shotgun to the neck of the victim and threatened the victim with bodily harm. The victim was able to disarm Guertler and flee from the residence. Deputies made contact with Guertler and placed him under arrest without incident. Guertler was charged with assault first degree, assault second degree and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending a bond review by the District Court Commissioner.
