LA PLATA, Md. (Oct. 14, 2008) - The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.
BREAKING AND ENTERING: On Oct. 14 at 4: 05 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the CVS located at 3075 Marshall Hall Road in Bryans Road for the report of an intrusion alarm. Investigation revealed the suspect gained entry into the store, stole cartons of cigarettes and fled prior to police arrival. Officer M. Beall is investigating.
HANDGUN ARREST: On Oct. 13 at 1:30 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 12000 block of Trade Zone Court in Waldorf for the report of gun shots. Upon arrival, officers observed two men sitting on the railroad tracks directly behind a business. As officers approached, one of the subjects, Daniel Argueta Cordova, 28, of Waldorf, threw a handgun into a wooded area. Another subject, Jose Santana Ortiz-Cubias, 23, of Waldorf, was sitting beside Cordova and wearing a shoulder bag containing a holster and a box of ammunition. Officers recovered a loaded .380 semi-automatic handgun and arrested the men. Both suspects were charged with possession of a handgun and reckless endangerment. Officer J. Kelly made the arrest.
SECOND-DEGREE BURGLARY: On Oct. 13 at 1:39 a.m., officers responded to the Food Lion at Marshall Hall Road in Bryans Road for the report of alarm activation. Investigation revealed the suspects broke out the front window, entered the store and stole multiple cartons of cigarettes. Officers arrived within a few minutes and established a perimeter. A K-9 search revealed the suspects fled prior to police arrival. Officer D. Almassy is handling the investigation.
FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT: On Oct. 10 at 9:48 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the McDonald's on Route 5 in Waldorf for the report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male with an injury to his head. The victim reported he was struck with a baseball bat but refused to provide additional information. He was treated at a nearby hospital for non life-threatening injuries. Officer C. Stuft is handling the investigation.
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On Oct. 10 at 5:04 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Smallwood Park and Ride in Waldorf for the report of a citizen robbery. Investigation revealed the victims, a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, were walking down a path when they were approached by a group of males who assaulted them and stole their wallets. Officers canvassed the area and located the suspects a short distance away; a wallet belonging to one of the victims was recovered from one of the suspects. Michael Landers, 18, of Waldorf, and two 16-year-old Waldorf males, were charged with robbery and theft. Officer J. Thompson made the arrest.
