St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Oct. 6, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ASSAULT FIRST DEGREE: On 10/03/08 at approximately 4:30 a.m. Dwight Leo Scriber, 43, of Hollywood, was operating a 2004 Toyota Rav 4. As he was backing into a parking spot on Fox Chase Drive in Great Mills, he backed into another vehicle causing damage. Mr. Scriber fled the scene of the accident. A witness observed the accident and provided a description and tag number of the vehicle Mr. Scriber was operating. Dfc. Deborah Milam observed the suspect vehicle on north bound Three Notch Road near the Hollywood Fire House. Dfc. Milam's radar indicated the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour. The suspect vehicle had to slow to weave around other traffic traveling on Three Notch Road. Dfc. Milam was able to catch up to and stop the vehicle. The driver initially pulled over for Dfc. Milam. As Dfc. Milam exited her vehicle, the suspect vehicle pulled away and attempted to flee. Dfc. Milam followed using lights and siren. The suspect vehicle suddenly turned around and accelerated towards Dfc. Milam's vehicle. Dfc. Milam had to brake and swerve to the right to avoid being struck by the vehicle. Dfc. Milam was able to see the operator of the Rav 4. The suspect vehicle then turned drove onto Clover Hill Road and the driver turned off his vehicle lights in an attempt to avoid detection. Dfc. Milam lost sight of the Rav 4. On 10/05/08 at approximately 5:40 a.m., a citizen observed a Toyota Rav 4 in the woods on Maypole Road near Parsons Mill Road. The vehicle had been in an accident and the operator was still in the driver's seat. When Dfc. Milam arrived at the accident scene she recognized and was able to identify Dwight Leo Scriber as the operator of the Rav 4 who attempted to strike her vehicle approximately on hour earlier. Mr. Scriber was arrested and charged with 1st & 2nd degree assault and numerous traffic law violations.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT 2ND DEGREE: On 10/03/08 in Leonardtown, Thomas Dale Nelson, Jr., 30, of Leonardtown, got into a verbal argument with the victim which escalated into Mr. Nelson striking the victim in the back causing injury. Thomas Dale Nelson Jr. was arrested and charged with second degree assault.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On 10/05/08 at approximately 10:15 p.m., Dfc. M. George responded to the Dew Drop Inn located in Hollywood for a disturbance. Investigation revealed Douglass William Beavers, 46, of Mount Airy, was causing a disturbance inside the establishment and was escorted out by staff. Douglass Beavers left the Dew Drop Inn prior to Dfc. George's arrival however was still in the immediate area. Dfc. George located him near by. Dfc. George advised Mr. Beaver, who was intoxicated, that he was not permitted to return to the Dew Drop Inn. Mr. Beavers was extremely uncooperative and began screaming profane language which attracted the attention of persons across the street who came outside to see what was causing the disturbance. Mr. Beaver's was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT 2ND DEGREE: On 10/05/08 Dfc. K. Meyer responded to the WaWa Store in California for a report of a domestic assault. Investigation revealed Teresa Jo Garcia, 43, of California, got into a verbal argument with the victim which escalated into Ms. Garcia striking and kicking the victim causing injury. Ms. Garcia also broke two cellular telephones belonging to the victim. Ms. Garcia was arrested and charged with second degree assault and two counts of destruction of property.
