Contemporary stained glass windows warm the heart and soul of those attending services at Peace Lutheran Church in Waldorf. The eight panels have been installed in the sanctuary in celebration of the church's 30th anniversary. (Submitted photo)
The eight panels, designed, created and installed by Daryl Faustini and Rex Ayers, owners of the Hour Glass Studio in La Plata and members at Peace, reflect the church's liturgical year and include green, purple, red, blue, black, white and gold.
"From one that takes art seriously, it's hard to conceptualize pencil to reality, especially for glass," said Faustini. "As light moves through colored glass, no matter what time of day, it warms both heart and soul. Both Rex and I are honored to bring this splendor in the glass to Peace."
Depending on the hour the windows are viewed inside the sanctuary, a rainbow is reflected onto the floor as the sun shines through the line of bevels in the windows, explained Faustini, who is also president for the church's council.
"I expected that it would be beautiful and, obviously, change the way the sanctuary looks," said Rev. Craig Endicott, regarding the effect of the windows for worshippers. "But, I didn't expect it would change the way it feels--softer, serene, peaceful."
