Santos SagastumePerez, 25, of Waldorf, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the death of his roommate, Misael Hernandez Segura, age 50.
The arrest was made by the Charles County Sheriffs Office, Major Crimes Unit. Officers located the suspect just outside of his residence shortly after arriving on the scene and detained him until their investigation warranted an arrest.
The motive is still under investigation, according to Kristen Timko, media relations officer for the Sheriff.
Police say they received a call from a witness who said that Sagastume-Perez indicated he stabbed his roommate during an argument. Subsequently, at 11:30 a.m., officers responded to the 4000 block of Bittern Court in Waldorf to investigate.
Police say it was not immediately clear where the stabbing occurred other than near a pond. Officers canvassed the area and shortly after 3 p.m. located Segura deceased and partially submerged in the pond located at the end of Drake Court.
Segura's body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Detective S. Fetterolf of the Charles County Sheriffs Office is investigating.
