LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Sept. 24, 2008)—Two St. Mary's County Sheriff's deputies have been deployed for a year long assignment in Iraq. Sgt. Christopher Medved is a lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserves and Senior Deputy First Class Randall Wood is a gunner's mate second class in the United States Navy Reserves. In their military service, both deputies are assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Group 2.
Medved and Wood left on Friday, September 12, to begin training in preparation for their deployment.
"The men and women of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office wish to thank those who serve and protect our County and extend thoughts and prayers to Sgt. Medved, Senior Deputy First Class Wood and their families during their time of deployment," said Sheriff Timothy Cameron in a press release.
According to GlobalSecurity.org, Naval Special Warfare Group TWO (NSWG-2), located in Little Creek, Va., is the one of the six major operational components of the Naval Special Warfare Command. NSWG-2 is commanded by a Navy Captain (O-6). NSWG-2 has under its operational and administrative control, SEAL Team TWO, SEAL Team FOUR, SEAL Team EIGHT, SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team TWO, Naval Special Warfare Unit FOUR and Naval Special Warfare Unit TEN.
