LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Sept. 24, 2008)—St. Mary's County is in a state of panic after two men kidnapped a bank employee and her two children and then robbed the PNC Bank in Lexington Park this morning. In addition to several roads being closed, schools in both St. Mary's and Calvert counties were notified to take precautionary measures.
School officials in St. Mary's say precautions they have taken include canceling outside activities, assuring that all exterior doors are secured, and increasing vigilance on checking the identifications of everyone entering the building.
As of 11:30 a.m. Calvert County Public Schools are still on heightened alert for precautionary reasons. Schools from Prince Frederick south remain on a partial lockdown. Students are attending classes as normal. When students must move between buildings, increased supervision is provided.
The identity of the bank robbers/kidnappers is not yet known.
Other media outlets have provided more detailed reports on the incident. We will provide a complete report once all facts are known.
